Summer Ione LaWahna Smisson Neel
July 31, 1961 - April 9, 2011
John and Summer Neel cross the finish line for the Komen Race for the
Cure in Macon, Georgia. Summer, was first diagnosed with Breast Cancer
in December of 2002 and fought a courageous nine year battle. The
Sanford Family, led by John Neel, has been heavily involved in The
American Cancer Society, the Susan B. Komen foundation, and other
organizations that are searching for the cure. In this photo with John
and Summer, is their oldest son Ford, John Neel, Sr., Sally Neel, Carl
Shoemaker, and long-time friend, Steven Farmer.

Avid supporters of the Susan G. Komen For The Cure, The Sanford Company recently attended a Mercer University Women’s Basketball Fund Raiser.
John Neel, Jimbo Walker, and Rob Wilkin are active members of the Macon Civic Club, a philanthropic organization which produces and performs a yearly musical and comedy review to raise money for over 50 local charities. The 50th anniversary show in February 2011 was a great success and raised $390,000 for charities in the Macon, GA area. In the picture, Rob Wilkin performs in one of the 2011 show’s numbers.
Since 2002, Jeff Moss has volunteered as the Director of Marketing for the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation and Sky Soldiers Demonstration Team, a 501-C-3 Not For Profit Veterans Foundation and Flying Museum located in Hampton, Georgia. Jeff pilots AH-1 Cobra and Huey helicopters for the group as well. During his tenure with the Heritage Foundation, Jeff has organized many Make A Wish Helicopter rides for children with life threatening illness. The team performs at air shows sharing the history of Army Aviation through aerial demonstrations that are geared to Honor Veterans, particularly those who served during the Vietnam War. Making a Difference for Children with Disabilities, Mallory’s Act, HB 959 Signed In To Law By Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue
Up until 2006, children with permanent disabilities were required to renew Disabled Parking Permits every two years. Jeff Moss, working with Grady County Legislator Gene Maddox, put together HB 959 which would amend the law allowing permanently disabled permits issued to special needs children remain in effect until the child’s eighteenth birthday. The bill passed the Georgia Legislature with a 100% Yes vote! Mallory Moss is shown assisting Governor Perdue in signing HB 959 in to Law along with her brother Jay, Camille & Jeff Moss, and State Representative Gene Maddox of Cairo. Mallory, permanently disabled from severe Epilepsy, has been featured in Time Magazine, Women’s World Magazine, as well as a National Syndicated Award Winning Story, "A Little Girl’s Brain" written by Macon Telegraph Journalist, Joe Kovac & Photo Journalist, Nick Oza.
John Calloway is shown here with other volunteers for Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief taking a break while building shelters for other volunteers in the parking lot of the First Baptist Church of Bay St. Louis, MS following hurricane Katrina. Calloway volunteers as an amateur radio communicator providing vital communication links during major disasters.
Patti McGinnis goes to "jail" as part of the Muscular Dystrophy fundraiser in Bibb County. The Sanford Company worked diligently to help arrange Patti's bail so she could return to work.
Jennifer Merritt spends her weekends providing Pet Therapy at local Long Term Care Nursing Facilities. Recently, Jennifer was accompanied to Peake Nursing Home in Macon by Sanford Caroline (Tootle) Neel and her two dogs, “Little Bit” & “Gracie.” The residents appreciate the opportunity to interact with the animals and it brings a little bit of home to the facility.
